A striking copper engraving of lions and tigers was published in 1657 for Jon Jonston's Historia Naturalis. Matthäus Merian der Ältere was a Swiss-born engraver who worked in Frankfurt for most of his career, where he also ran a publishing house. Later hand coloring. A spectacular, rare print over 350 years old!
